Common Email Errors
End users can be very commonly get confused as to why they may not be able to send or receive. It is important to identify 3 things.
- Have you checked the basics such as your email settings and your internet connectivity?
- Can your send/receive request actually communicate with the mail server of is it failing before this process.
- This leads to the next question. Are your requests being blocked by any added security local to your machine.
If you are able to answer any of the above you have covered the basics however not all email problems are as easy to fix. As spam grows greater and greater ISPs also have to enforce their security.
Blacklisted IP?
Another common problem can be emails being blocked because it came from an IP address that's been identified as somehow being related to spammers. If you're not getting your email bounced back to you with some indication, this can be harder to detect. Firstly, you will need to find out what IP address you are getting from Firenet. The easiest way to identify this is by going to www.whatismyip.com. You can then call us to verify if this is what is causing the issue and we will do our very best to resolve this for you as soon as possible.
550 Authentication failure:
When sending emails you are using what is called SMTP. SMTP is the server used for outgoing mail. It is important to check with your ISP who maintains this server and if you are permitted to use it. If you are not permitted you may receive a 550 authentication failure.
SMTP Authentication:
If you are using an SMTP authentication service check that your port number is correct and you have the relevant username and password in place to use this service. You will receive all of the correct details upon registration.
Should you find at any time you may need to amend your email account please see the documentation provided to do so.
